The main concept of my work has been based on the Freudian concept of the uncanny-an instance where something can be familiar, yet foreign at the same time, resulting in a feeling of it being uncomfortably strange. I have used body extensions, video and sculptural installations to convey this idea. My work is materially based on reflective surfaces. I believe materially there is no greater way of including the audience within your work than literally placing their self-image within the works structure. When a spectators’ reflection is comprised in a work, that piece becomes much more interesting than the shape of which it’s formed, it provides a Narcissus-like fascination. When a work has reflective properties child like instincts cause the viewer to move their bodies and immerse themselves in changing the work by their movements creating a temporal effect. My aim is that the work evokes a different sensation for each individual spectator
